Reduced Gravity Vacuum Chamber

The reduced gravity vacuum chamber facility is a cube of inner dimensions 40 inches x 40 inches x 40 inches. It has two viewing ports 24 inches in diameter with bottom and back wall visual grids. Four vacuum connections allow hook-ups for vacuum pumps, instrumentation, and electrical/fluid pass throughs. The vacuum pump system is a two stage mechanical roughing pump and turbo pump, both dry style (oil pumps are not allowed for use aboard NASA’s reduced gravity aircraft under 0-g). An external cage structure, not shown, supports lights and cameras.  This is the largest vacuum chamber ever flown aboard the reduced gravity aircraft aircraft.
