Igor Carron suggested an interesting problem dealing with methods to denoise the videos coming out of endoscopic visualization of the containment vessel of reactor 5 at Fukushima Daiichii. Using the videos provided and implementing the GODEC algorithm found here , we were able to produce the video found on the blog nuit blanche.
As mentioned in Dr. Carron’s blog, the GoDec solver performs a low rank decomposition added with a sparse and noisy component. The video on the accompanying page (link can be found on the sidebar of this page) is the result 800 frames at 1 minutes into video 2. The accompanying .mat file can be downloaded here.
